On December 3, 2023, in Chicago’s West Side, a tragic incident unfolded as the limo driver, Mohammed K. Al Hijoj (our dear friend), lost his life in a shooting in the North Austin neighborhood. Al Hijoj, a husband and father of three, was well-known and respected in his community.
Mohammed was driving a car with four passengers when it came to a stop on North Lotus Avenue. Gunshots were heard, prompting the passengers to exit the vehicle and flee the scene. Al Hijoj suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The incident has left his family and the limo community in shock. Moe “Green”, described as an excellent and kind person, dreamed of obtaining his Ph.D. He had started a limo company seven years ago to support himself and his small family while pursuing his studies. He would have been alive if the mayor and governor had done their jobs!
The tragedy highlights the senseless violence that can impact individuals going about their daily lives, leaving a community mourning the loss of a cherished member.
To avoid similar situations in the future, most of the Chicago Limo companies will strictly avoid entry in high crime areas!

We all know Chicago is a bustling and beautiful city. Actually one of the most beautiful cities in USA.
However, please know that there is also an unspoken understanding among Chicago limo companies.
We will avoid certain areas known for possible dangers to both limo drivers and clients. It all boils down to the looming specter of crime and violence.
It might seem a tad unfair or overly cautious, but these Chicago limo companies aren’t just being picky. It’s a calculated move to ensure everyone – from passengers to drivers – stays out of harm’s way. Safety is their top priority, and they’re unwilling to gamble. No exceptions!
Picture this: You’re all decked out, ready to roll in a sleek limo, and suddenly, you find yourself cruising through an area where the vibe gets a bit dicey. Not exactly the glamorous ride you envisioned, right? Limos are all about luxury, comfort, and creating memorable experiences, not threading through streets where safety is compromised.
Chicago has diverse neighborhoods, each with its character and charm. However, it’s no secret that some areas have higher crime rates, making them potential hotspots for unwanted incidents. Limo companies, in their commitment to providing a secure and enjoyable experience, opt to bypass these zones. If you have a pick up or drop of in these high crime areas, don’t get surprised if your ride gets rejected. If you change your route and ask your chauffeur to enter these areas, you will be discharged at a safe location, charged 100% and have to find your own transportation.
Passengers must understand- It’s not about avoiding specific communities or passing judgment. It’s the reality in Chicago! Limo companies create an environment where passengers should enjoy the luxury of their limo without having any safety concerns.
Safety is the name of the game when it comes to cruising the streets of Chicago in a limo. These companies are like your guardians of luxury, ensuring your ride remains a highlight reel of good times without any unexpected plot twists.
Now, it’s essential to acknowledge the complexities of urban life. Lately, crimes moved up even in the Chicago’s best neighborhoods. Limo companies, recognizing this urban mosaic, strategically plan routes to weave through the vibrant, secure streets of the city.
For example, we, at Chief Chicago Limo, will no longer exit highways to take shortcuts. You might want to save 10 minutes, but our drivers’ lives are more important than your time!!! City drivers, for early morning and late night pick ups, are likely to carry guns- whether you like it or not!!! From January 1st, prices for the City limits will go way up as well!

Tips on Safe Travels in a New City
Visiting a new city requires more than just booking your stay and flights. Whether it’s for business or leisure, you must make sure that you and your family will be safe. Here’s a guide to help you plan for secure and enjoyable adventures in a new or unfamiliar city:
1. Research Your Destination
Start by delving into the specifics of your destination. Understand the local culture, customs, and the crime areas: research neighborhoods, the surroundings of where you are staying, the tourist attraction locations.
2. Transportation Savvy
Research the airports you are landing. For example MDW airport in Chicago. If you are using public transportation to get to and from Midway airport, you will have to take the Red Line. It’s the most unsafe transportation you can get. Search online and you will see how much crime took place on that Red Line.
Always use licensed ground transportation services. Having a chauffeured service at least means that your driver is fingerprinted by the government and has no criminal record.
3. Accommodation Matters
Choose your lodging wisely. Your hotel or Airbnb will never say that they are located in a high crime area. Opt for reputable hotels or accommodations with positive reviews. Check the location’s proximity to essential services, transportation hubs, and the areas you plan to explore.
One time tourists had booked an Airbnb in the west side of Chicago. Our chauffeur warned them about the area but they still wanted to go there. They arrived at the pick up and after seeing the area, asked the driver to drive them at a safe location where they can have time to book another stay.
4. Be Alert
Ensure your phone is fully charged, or put it on charge once you enter the limo. Save critical local contacts, emergency numbers, and the address of your accommodation. Be ready to call the local emergency number in case you get into a hazardous situation. Don’t forget that your driver will be busy trying to get you out of it. So you can at least call the local 911. Stay connected with family or friends and inform them of your plans.
5. Secure Your Belongings
Keep your valuables secure. Keep the most valuable items in the car with you. The trunk or glass might be opened or broken at a stop light and your items stolen. At least you will have saved the most important ones. Invest in anti-theft backpacks or pouches, and be cautious about displaying expensive items. Use hotel safes for passports, extra cash, and essential documents.
6. Health Precautions
Believe it or not, but experiencing a life threatening situation might trigger anxiety and other serious medical conditions. Carry essential medications, a basic first aid kit, and health insurance details.
7. Blend In
Embrace the local dress code and customs to avoid standing out as a tourist. This can help you blend in and reduce the risk of becoming a target for petty crime.
8. Map Out Your Route
Plan your routes, especially if you’re exploring on foot. Familiarize yourself with key landmarks and have a backup map on your phone in case of connectivity issues. Or hire bodyguards.
9. Be Street Smart
Stay aware of your surroundings. Avoid poorly lit areas at night, and be cautious about sharing personal information with strangers. Trust your instincts, and if something feels off, seek help.
